Celebrate Israel Parade 2015

IDC hit the street at Fifth Ave. in New York on Sunday June 2nd to help spread the word about Israeli Defense Comics # 02. There were alot of great floats and legions of Pro-Israel supporters! The parade spanned almost 20 city blocks right up central park. Live music ranged from Israeli Pop, marching bands, and traditional Zionist songs. The crowds were energetic even when light rain began, they pushed through to cheer on the thousands of participants.

In the late afternoon the Celebrate Israel festival continued in Central Park at the Summer stage. Hundreds of people joined together to enjoy Jewish music from past to present. Unfortunately, the event ended a bit early due to thunderstorms.

At the end of the we had a chance to share Israeli Defense Comics with a whole new crowd.

Help support our Pro-Israel initiative!

Brooklyn Public Library Features Jewish Comic Book Art

Jewish Super Hero Comics Exhibition by Joshua Stulman

June 2 – July 31, 2015
Opening Reception & Comic Book Signing: Tuesday, June 2, 6 – 8 pm

Location: Kings Highway Library, 2115 Ocean Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11229

Curated by Boris Ioselev

Jewish Super Hero Comics is a solo exhibition of original artwork by comic book artist, Joshua H. Stulman. Stulman is the creator and artist for Israeli Defense Comics, featuring the Jewish Superhero, Magen: The Shield of Israel.

Israeli Defense Comics draws heavy inspiration from the Golden Age comics. The superhero, Magen, which in Hebrew means “shield”, refers to a long line of patriotic superheroes created by Jewish artists including Irv Novick (the Shield), Will Eisner (Uncle Sam), and Jack Kirby/Joe Simon (Captain America).

The stories fuse action and adventure with references to news stories straight from the headlines. Israeli Defense Comics merges entertainment with education to help communicate current events in Israel and Jewish history.

Stulman holds an MFA degree in painting from Pratt Institute, as well as BA degrees in Anthropology and Fine art from Penn State University. In 2010, Stulman co-founded Hadas Gallery, the only Jewish emerging artist gallery in Brooklyn, and currently runs the Brooklyn Art Review. His artwork has been featured in numerous publications including the Jewish Forward, as well as the Jewish Comix Anthology Vol. 1 published by Alternate History Comics.
