Golem and Superheroes Panel at Wizard World Philadelphia 2015

Joshua H. Stulman has been invited to lead a lecture/discussion about the Golem and its Jewish influences on Comic Book Superheroes. The Golem is the subject of Israeli Defense Comics # 02. Check out the Kickstarter to learn more about Israeli Defense Comics # 02. CLICK HERE

Event: Wizard World Philadelphia 2015

Title: Jewish Super-Heroes and the Golem

Panelists: Joshua H. Stulman and Al Wiesner

TIME: Sunday, May 10  12:00 – 12:45PM

ROOM: Pennsylvania Convention Center, Room 109

Description:

The Jewish comic book creators of the Golden Age of Comics (1930’s-1950’s) were inspired by a variety of sources. While many of these included cinema, pulp novels, and science fiction, some creators reached into their heritage to old tales of the Golem- a mythical clay creation come to life.  Discover how the Golem myth inspired Marvel and DC characters like the Hulk, Thing, and Clayface. Jewish comic book creators Al Wiesner (Shaloman) and Joshua H. Stulman (Israeli Defense Comics) explain how the Golem continues to play a major role in their comics.

Jewish Comic Book Kickstarter Launched!

Israeli Defense Comics # 2 is a 30 page story that features a re-imagining of the Jewish mystical myth of the Golem set in modern day Israel.

THE STORY

In Israeli Defense Comics # 2, Magen encounters the re-emergence of the Golem while pursuing Hamas terrorists in Gaza for launching mortars into the Israeli town of Sderot. But if the Golem is a force for good, why is it out of control? Who is the Golem’s creator? Can Magen stop the mystical clay monster before it’s too late?!

THE PROJECT

The best part about this Kickstarter is that the script and artwork for IDC #02 are already completed! Even the cover is completed, colored and ready to go!

All that is needed to complete the project is to finish lettering the book and sending it to the printer. This means that within only 2 months you will be holding your signed copy in your hands!

I am happy to announce that each pledge option will come with either a digital or print version of Israeli Defense Comics # 02! This way everyone can enjoy the adventure!

There are also numerous opportunities for unique rewards including original character sketches, sketch covers, as well as the original artwork from Israeli Defense Comics # 02. Explore the secret Jewish origin of the comic book industry

Sunday, December 14, 2014 at 5PM

Town and Village Synagogue

334 East 14th Street, New York, NY

Explore the secret Jewish origin of the comic book industry, its themes and myths.

An Illustrated Presentation by Joshua H. Stulman, Publisher of Israeli Defense Comics

Joshua H. Stulman has been fascinated with superhero comics since the age of six when his father purchased Shaloman # 01 for him.Since then he has immersed himself in the history of comics beginning with the early adventures of Superman, Batman, and Captain America. Stulman’s comic book collection now numbers in the thousands and is a continuing source of artistic inspiration to him.

In 2007, in the aftermath of the Second Lebanese War, Stulman created the superhero Magen, the shield of Israel. Stulman returned to the character twice before finally publishing the first issue of Israeli Defense Comics in the spring of 2012. The second issue of IDC features the Golem story re-imagined in modern time.
