IDC Wishes You a HAPPY CHANUKAH 2015!

Happy Chanukah from all of us at Israeli Defense Comics!

Chanukah is the Festival of Lights! As we light the menorah for these 8 days, we remember that the festival celebrates the re-dedication of the Temple in Jerusalem over 2000 years ago.

During these difficult times of political strife and terror, let us re-dedicate ourselves to the people that are most important in our life and our belief in Kindness and Justice!

Below is the Press Release for the exhibition:

“JOMIX – Jewish Comics; Art & Derivation
September 1st through November 15th, 2015. Mon-Fri 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM

Philadelphia Museum of Jewish Art
615 N Broad St, Philadelphia, PA 19123

About the Exhibit:

From the invention of Superman by Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster, to the graphic novel Maus by Art Spiegelman, Jewish artists and writers have served an essential and indispensable role in the comics and graphic novel industry. This exhibition explores a roster of cutting-edge creators, reinvestigating traditional genres like superhero, political satire, romance, horror, science fiction and confessionals through a Jewish lens.

The title of the show, JOMIX, is a hybrid term composed from the old underground independently produced “comix”, such as Zap Comix, 1968, edgy and transgressive in nature as changed by Jewish origins and intent.

In this way, the show challenges viewers to experience how these contemporary Jewish artists use the comics medium as a way to express and address their own Jewish identity and cultural experience, while also examining the complex relationship of art, identity and culture within the Jewish community at large.
